Masdar City, Abu Dhabi - world’s 1st zero-carbon metropoli?
Masdar City Renewable Energy projects
All cities generate emissions and waste, however Masdar City in Abu Dhabi is aiming to be the world’s first zero-carbon metropolis.
The concept has been four years in the making and aims to make the city completely reliant on solar and other forms of renewable energy. Cars will be banned within the city limits to reduce emissions, allowing the populous
to utilise the public transport and personal rapid transit systems.
The final cost for the city is expected to total US$22 billion, once it is finished. Abu Dhabi recently invested US$1 trillion into improving its infrastructure, with a large section going on renewable energy research. Many countries have realised that once their oil supplies are gone, they are going to have to find alternative means to keep the lights on.
