Wave Hub - Latest renewable energy developments - Sep 2010
As countries around the world attempt to cut their carbon footprint by turning to renewable energy, a handful of projects have stood above the rest to be an inspiration to others in reducing emissions and harnessing green fuels.
Wave Hub
Installed this week off the coast of Cornwall, Wave Hub is set to become the UK’s largest wave energy site, as well as the world’s.
Costing £42 million, Wave Hub is essentially a ‘socket’ into which wave converters are plugged into. Once energy is generated via the converters, the energy is sent back to the mainland via a cable where it is distributed by a sub
station.
The system is expected to go online next year and will be the culmination of six years work by the South West Regional Development Agency.
